This telephone interview about cross-community organizing took place during the first Covid-19-lockdown in Berlin in spring 2020 and one month after the racist, rightwing massacre in Hanau (Hesse), where a nazi shot and killed nine young People of Color (PoC)/descendants of migrants in two shisha bars and a shop close by. It is inspired by the documentary Without Community, There Is No Liberation ‒ an independent production of the Berlin based Black and PoC Women (BPoC Women) documentary film collective Activistar Film & Video Productions. The movie documents self-organized anti-racist movements and struggles of racialized communities since the fall of the Berlin Wall. It collects untold stories, experiences and archive footage of activists from the Black German Community, refugees, descendants of the ›guest worker‹ generation, a Mapuche activist and other contemporary witnesses. The movie calls for more collective action of racialized communities in Germany. In this conversation one of the filmmakers Nadiye Ünsal (Activistar Film & Video Productions Collective) talks to Sanchita Basu (ReachOut) and Jasmin Eding (Adefra roots) about (im)possibilities of antiracist political work, cross-community alliances and solidarity.
