Abstract

This article describes the emergence, activities, and struggles of young refugees from the initiative Youth without Borders (Jugendliche ohne Grenzen) in Germany. It argues that the reasons for the struggles of migrants and refugees are embedded in the social and public structures of discrimination and racism. Therefore, the struggles of Youth without Borders were not only against the special law for refugees, but also against social actors who victimize and objectify refugees in particular and migrants in general. The article also discusses the difficulties and challenges, which Youth without Borders has to face with other migrant and refugee organisations and how they handle them. The article summarizes the achievements of the last ten years and concludes that the struggle for more equality and less racism needs to be continued.
