Abstract

In this article we present some preliminary findings of our work as Berlin based activists who monitor racism in the judiciary. Starting from the assumption that racism can be found on all levels of society, we aim at countering the idea that the justice system is neutral and objective. Most of the trials we observe are structured around the (police) practice of racial profiling. A problem we frequently encounter is how racism is rendered invisible and denied by police and justice officials. In order to fully understand the process of criminalization of those affected by racism, it is necessary to look at the institutions of the criminal justice system in their interconnectedness and their interaction.
